First time create a website?

This is for a newbie website creation only!

I still remembered well the first days I created a website. At that time, I knew nothing about website creation, how does website work?…. all were new for me. Fortunately I have a closed friend who is an IT engineer, I asked him how to do? He gave me some advices. So to create a website, I need:

- Register a domain.

- Build webpages in my computer.

- Buy a hosting package (a space to store my webpages online)

- Upload webpages to that hosting space.

- Connect domain with hosting account

Those are main steps! those were all information I got but to go deep inside each step was complicated for me. I had to read, study and asked in many forums to overcome each step. Finally, my website running in two weeks. Within this post, I would like to share with you the most simple way to create a website for anyone, who know nothing about website creation like me in the past.

1- Register a domain:

- A domain is your web site name/address online. Example, if your name is ABC and your business is selling books. You can name your business as ABCBOOKSTORE or any name that is related to your business. You should think about several names for your online store.

- Go to a domain registration website such as: (Goddaddy, LuckyRegsiter, Register…..) and search for your website name to check if it is still available or not?



Good names are almost not available, someone already registered. So as I already said, you should think about several names, if the first one is not available, try the second one…third one… There are many domain extensions such as: .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .co…. Sometime .com is not available but other domain extensions are still available.

In my opinion, .com is the best, it is the king for all domain extensions. Everyone knows .Com so that it is very popular and easy to remember. So first choice MUST BE “.COM” extension. It is your online store name/ address, It must be easy to remember -> easy to visit.

If all the names in .com are not available, you can register .net, .info, .biz…. but as I say, .com is the king so try to think about a name that still available in .com.

For short, in the city, the downtown will be the best place to located your store, .com is downtown location. If you can not find the place in downtown, you may get other places for your store far away from down town and in this case they are .net, .info, .biz…

In the beginning:

.com  means commercial, business…

.net means networks…

info means information

biz means business

….

But nowadays, .com means everything!

2 – Build webpages in my computer:

So the first step is: name your online store name by register a domain name. The second step is create webpages for your website. It is the same as you make table, chairs, shelf… and put your products on to sell.

There are many software you can use to create webpages. For me I use Microsoft Frontpage. This software you can find it on your computer under Programs/Microsoft Office. If you do not have it in your computer, go online to download one or ask someone to install it for you.

Open Microsoft FrontPage, Click “File” and select “New”. You will see a new page, at the bottom, on your left, you will see “Design, Split, Code, Preview”. Click to select “Design” and now you can write anything about your store or insert pictures, links… if you do not clear about some points, read “Help” to get clear. When you finish, click “File”, select “Save as” and in the “File name” area, input the name “index”. (it must be named as “index”)

So you have just build the first page of your website, name “index”, this is the home page of your website. You can do the same to create other webpage and you can name it as any name you like.

Remember store all these pages in a folder in your computer.

3 – Buy a hosting package (a space to store my webpages online):

You have just finished the two steps. Now is the third step. You need a space online to store your files (web pages). It calls “Hosting space”. A hosting space means a space in a computer (server) like a folder in your computer BUT this computer (server) is connected online all the time so that anyone can access into this computer (server) to read the information. If you have a folder there, store your webpages in this folder so anyone can access to this folder to read the information.

You can find many hosting company online now, most of domain registration company also offer hosting services. You purchase one that package (select the small package first, you can upgrade it latter). After purchasing, you will get the an hosting account, they will allow you to access into to the hosting control panel and get all hosting information. One of the feature you will see in the control panel is “FTP manager” or something like that. Click on this and create a user name and password.

Go online, download a free copy of CuteFTP software (you can purchase it latter). Install it in your computer. After installing, open CutFPT and you will see a window. On the top, left hand, you will see “Host:” “User name” “Password”. Read the welcome email from hosting company sent to you, you will see the server IP address. (or you can see this IP number in the hosting control panel). Input the IP number in “Host:” area. Input the user name/ password (you created in FPT manage, in hosting control panel) and press “Enter”.

If you input all the information correct, you will see on your right hand of the FTP screen, display the hosting folders (this is hosting company computer/server). Double click  on the “Public_html” folder, this means you selected this folder to upload your webpages into.

On the left hand of your FTP screen, (it is your computer) find the folder you stored webpages, select all the files and click upload icon to upload all the files to “Public_html” folder.

If you purchase a dedicated IP with your hosting package, Go online, type this ip on your browser and see your web pages. If not, do not worry, you will see it latter.

4- Connect domain with hosting account:

Great! You are now just one step more to finish your website creation.

Login your domain registration account, click on the domain name you registed in the first step, you will see a link name “nameservers” or something similar,  click on this you will see “Nameserver 1:” “Nameserver 2:”….

In the welcome email when you purchased hosting, they should send the the nameservers (name of the hosting computer/servers). You also can find this information in hosting control panel. If you can not find it, ask your hosting company to get it.

In put your hosting Nameservers in the “Nameserver 1:” “Nameserver 2:”. Save it. This action means you make a link between your domain name and your hosting space.

Thats’all! you need to wait for up to 72hours and you can see your first, great website online!

This post is the simple way that I had done the first time for my website, you can try. I do hope it will help you a newbie in website creation.

My site got banned from Google AdSense

Tw weeks ago, it was a hard time for me, one week I could not sleep well. One of my website got banned from Google AdSense team.

I was on holiday for lunar new year and Google AdSense sent me one warning message, required me to change our site design to comply with their policy with in 72 hours. I had not checked my email for a week and when I open my mail box, it was over already for the deadline to modify my website design. I visited my website (with 3000 usd/month income from Google AdSense) it was empty for Google Ads. I was very worry and thought that it was the end for this site since I created it for Google AdSense income.

After two days seeking for advices from online sources, read again and again Google AdSense policies. I made an action plan for it. I asked my web designer to redesign my website to comply 100% with Google AdSense policies and I reviewed it point by point to ensure that all are ok. I contacted Google AdSense Team, explained them the situation why I had not changed my site with in 72 hours, what I had done for my site with sample urls to comply with Google AdSend policies… and ask them to reconsider my case to re-enable Google Ads on my site.

It is magical! after ten hours, I got feedback from Google with information that they already re-enable my ads. You can imagine, how happy I was at that moment;)

Why I got this problem? the main problem is: I did not read their policies very well (I did but very quickly and forgot everything after one day). So I updated, redesigned my site day after day. One day my site violated their policies but I did not realize the problem. So if you are in my case, please read Google AdSense Policies one or ten times more. I am lucky man in this case since my site is enable for AdSense now but most of the cases, It is the end! Do not play with Google

I have been online marketing for more than ten years and I have seen many websites got problem with search engines, such as Google. Ten years ago, event nowadays, many webmasters still try to play with search engines to get better ranking for their website for certain key words. Webmasters often try to play with their website code… do link exchange to build a large link number to their web.. Yes, many webmasters were got high ranking for months by using these ways.

I have followed many websites with high ranking in Google for some competitive key words (they are my site’s competitors). There are many of them got banned from Google after some months. If your website got banned from Google, It is the end for your search engine marketing.

Why search engines work hard to stop these “SPAM” ranking websites? All search engines want to bring the best results to their users. If your site content fits 100% with the keywords (user use to search) PLUS high numbers of persons (websites, web users) vote for you through online business (this could be number of links back to your site), your site should be higher ranking => this is fare = Target of search engine. With spam linking… this can consider as “fake votes”, it will cheat search engines to rank websites with wrong target.

So do not play wrong ways with search engines for the ranking, sooner or latter they will catch you and the game is over, th end game for your website ranking! Do the right ways “Good/ fresh website content + Get good votes from online users” = best website ranking method.

My first income from online jobs

As I already wrote in the first post about my first time online. I discovered domain as a great business and I wished to make money with it but I lost my money since I did not know the business very well… I did not given up the idea, I keep seeking for more information and study a lots about domain business…. One day in 2002 I aksed myself why can I become a domain register? I tried to learn how to become a domain register and I found that It was not possible for me to be come an ICANN-Accredited Registrar. It required so many things and I could not do it… I felt badly but in the same time, I thought that I can be a domain reseller. After a couple weeks searching to find the best reseller plans for me, I signed up for one domain reseller plan and paid $99 for one year member fee.

After purchased, I got a confirmation email with the reseller url, I did not know how to do with this url (I had thought that they would create a reseller website for me and I just need to do web marketing to gain customers to may reseller site). I wrote a message to the reseller provider company and asked them how could I do with this url? They gave me some advices:

- Use this url to market the domain registration service via email marketing, web pages…

- Register a domain a forward this domain to this url and do web marketing.

- Create a website and link it to web home page, host it and do web marketing (this for pro user only)

I knew nothing about the above points, web marketing was so new for me. Site creation is so difficult for me… I really did not know how to do now. I put all the points on the table and though that the last point was the best (I knew that it is very hard). I told myself, I need to invest a computer to have the tool to develop the website and I bought the first computer (I still keep it now in my home office). I learned from online how to create a website? Which web creation softwares did I need for my computer? I downloaded them to my computer and started playing with website creation.

I used microsoft frontpage to create the website, it is very complicated to create a rich designed website but not so difficult to create a simple web page. I created one page website and uploaded it to hosting account (I bought a hosting account already from Host Department). I was very happy to see the website running and I kept playing with this website day after day… one month latter, I have a website with about 10 pages but no one purchased domain from my site. I knew that I need to drive visitors to my site to purchase domains from my reseller site.

I tried to search Yahoo, Infoseek, Hotbot…Google to see if my site got ranked? Nothing happen, I did not see my site. One night, I searched in Google “why my site does not rank in search engine?” I got tons of answer why? and I saw that I need to learn hard about website raking, SEO (search engine optimization), I read may resources, books… and I applied it for my website. Two months latter I saw my site ranking in Google with a long key word. I am so happy and I worked harder. I slept only 4 hours every night to do web promotion (day time, I worked for the other company). I saw more and more keywords were ranked in Google and other search engines….

One morning, I got an message, informed me that I have made a commission from my reseller site (about $5). Woh I am very very happy…. YES I can do! I got about $50 for that month and 5 months latter, I got $300/month….up to now, It is still my very good business with ten times higher commission.

In my case, the key is “work hard + big dream, hope and willing to do it”. Nothing is magical. I am a normal man, know nothing about web development, marketing in the beginning…

My first website

How can I say? I call it a website since it is my first web site creation. I knew nothing about how to create a website at that time (I was graduated as a technical teacher, and at that time, internet, computer was very new in my country). All I had at that time is my willing to make a website.

I tried to learn online how to make a website and I discovered that it was not easy to make a website. I need to have a computer and know-how to use some softwares… It was too much for me. I did not have these. I only can use computer from internet cafe. So I found solutions for this, I see a website name BigSteps, this website allowed me to create a website online, just need clicks, typing and I can have a website, the website address was their website sub domain. It was so great, first time I have a website, This website was a business listing website for my country companies.

After website creation, I discovered that my site could not be found by search engines (Yahoo, infoseek, altavista… at that time Google did not exist in my mind). I struggled to find the ways to push my site visual in SE but nothing happened….

Two months latter, BigStep informed me that they changed their business ideal, I need to pay for this website or they will closed my site… I hated them so much, they were about to killed my first website since I had no money tom pay for it.

Thank you BigSteps, I had my first website, only two month old but I got a lot of things from this. I discovered that to create a website, I need to learn many things and I also knew that web site creation is a big step for me but website promotion also was a second big step for me….

First time I am online!

I know Internet 14 years ago, If I remember well, it is sometime in summer 1997, my country opened the door for internet. I did not have my own computer so I used to go to internet cafes to “Enjoy online feeling”. It is a new world for me, a great world, where I can find tons of information from sexual stories, pictures…and discovered the other countries (at that time, I had not yet go to any other countries).

I had no idea about making money online at that time. I spent most of my online time for reading news or visited entertainment web sites…One day, I read from an online news source that Business.com sold for millions of USD. I asked myself, what is a domain name? why does it so value? and I started ready and study more a bout domain names. The first domain registration website I knew at that time is Networksolutions, If I remembered well, they charged for over $30/ yr. (It is so expensive for me since my salary was just about 40 usd/month).

I started thinking that I may make money from domain name, I could register a domain name and resell it and I may make a lot of money the other day ;) . I made a plan to save money to invest to register domain names…. and finally, I had money enough to register some domain names and the same time I found other domain registration company who only charged $10/year (Stargate inc company, I do not think they are existing now, I can not find out their information online now).

I registered some domains and it cost me about 100 usd (it is huge for me at that time, more than 2 months of my salary). I keep them with BIG hope, some great day, some man will contact me to pay for a big amount of money ;) but no one! more time past, less hope in my mind… and one year over, domain register company asked me to pay for the domain renewals, it is a hard time for me since I had to decide to renew or not? not it means I lost all my invested money last year. If I want to keep, I need to invest more money and I am not sure that I can get back or not?

Finally, I only keep a couple of domains (until now, can not resell ;) ). I discovered that it was not easy to make money from domains but I still saw that many persons still made money from this business (I followed success stories on Great Domains website, now this website is belonged to Sedo). I understood that I had played a game (domain investment) but I knew nothing about it “just a hope”… It is a big lesson for me about making money online. I lost my saving money but I got a good experience to play next games.
